1) The art criticism process starts with describing and identifying what you see. Then you analyze, looking for specific things like lines, colors and textures, as well as a center of interest. Next you interpret what is happening in the artwork and everything that is going on in it. Last, you evaluate it, like whether you like it and how successful it is and the quality.
In this piece, I used mostly curved lines and I think it has a pretty smooth texture. It uses mostly dark values and there a lot of dull colors. There isn't much negative space and I think there's a contrast between the brown and lavender. The theme is portraiture and I used water color and water color pencils. |
4) What are some reasons people make art?
There are lots of different reasons to make art, like if it were a job or if you were teaching. It could also be a hobby or maybe someone asked you to do it as a favor or something. It's hard to remember how many things qualify as art, so maybe if you were just taking a picture of something it could be classified as art, and you could be taking it out of enjoyment or for memory or whatever else. A lot of different people make art for a lot of different people but I think another reason could be to bring people together. For me, I just make art because I enjoy it and I like seeing how I improve with my art over time.

You learn basic things about the different types of mediums and how to use them and etc. Even if you don't continue to take art classes, it's still cool to know. One thing I got from this class is that there is a lot of different types of art and it's not just limited to drawing like everyone who hasn't taken art thinks. I also learned a lot from the warm ups, like the collage color wheel, and illustration Fridays, like how to be more creative.

Before that, I had a rational fear of drawing hands and was one of those people who just put the hands behind their back or something but not anymore. The warm up also taught me to look at what I'm drawing, not just try to remember it so I could get it more accurate.
